Ductile Iron Wide Range Coupling

Product Features

● Wide Outside-Diameter Range: Accommodates variations in pipe outside diameter within the specified coupling range.
● Ductile Iron Construction: Provides good mechanical strength, impact resistance, and long-term durability.
● Flexible Joint Design: Helps accommodate limited angular deflection, minor pipe misalignment, vibration, and ground movement.
● EPDM Rubber Gaskets: Provide resilient sealing for compatible water-service applications.
● Plain-End Connection: Requires no welding, threading, or flange machining on the pipe ends.
● Multiple Pipe Compatibility: Suitable for connecting different pipe materials when their outside diameters fall within the approved range.
● Corrosion Protection: Internal and external epoxy coating protects the ductile iron components against common water-service environments.
● Easy Installation: Longitudinal bolts and separate end rings allow rapid assembly and convenient maintenance.

Overview

Overview

The Ductile Iron Wide Range Coupling, also known as a Universal Wide Tolerance Coupling, is designed to connect plain-ended pipes with different outside diameters or pipe materials in water supply, irrigation, fire protection, and general utility pipeline systems.

The coupling consists of a ductile iron center sleeve, two end rings, EPDM sealing gaskets, and longitudinal bolts. When the bolts are tightened, the end rings compress the rubber gaskets around the pipe surfaces, forming a secure and flexible pressure seal without welding, threading, or flanging the pipe ends.

Its wide outside-diameter tolerance allows one coupling size to accommodate several pipe materials and external diameters within the specified range. It can be used with ductile iron, grey iron, steel, PVC-U, PE, and fibre-cement pipes, subject to the selected coupling range and pipe suitability. Where two pipe ends have significantly different outside diameters, a stepped coupling configuration can be provided.

Product Advantages

Product Advantages

● Reduces the need to stock numerous conventional coupling sizes
● Simplifies repair and connection of pipes with varying outside diameters
● Suitable for new construction, pipeline maintenance, and emergency repair
● Allows limited flexibility compared with rigid flanged or welded joints
● Minimizes pipe-end preparation and installation time
● Can connect pipes made from different materials
● Removable and reusable when the components remain within acceptable condition
● Provides an economical solution for water and utility pipelines

Technical Specifications

Technical Specifications

Industry Applications

Industry Applications

● Municipal water supply and distribution
● Drinking-water pipelines with approved materials and coatings
● Water treatment plants
● Irrigation systems
● Fire protection water pipelines
● Industrial water systems
● Pipeline repair and replacement
● Connection of pipes made from different materials
● Above-ground and underground water pipelines

This product is primarily intended for water-service pipelines. Suitability for wastewater, gas, oil, chemicals, high temperatures, vacuum conditions, or restrained pipeline systems must be separately confirmed.

Installation Notes

Installation Notes

● Confirm that both pipe outside diameters fall within the coupling’s specified working range.
● Clean the pipe surfaces and remove dirt, scale, sharp edges, and excessive coating buildup from the sealing area.
● Center the coupling correctly over the pipe ends and maintain the required insertion depth.
● Tighten the bolts gradually and evenly in a cross pattern to the specified torque.
● Do not use the coupling as a substitute for pipeline anchoring where axial thrust restraint is required.
● Pressure-test the completed joint in accordance with the project requirements before commissioning.
