Overview
The Brass Air Release Valve is designed to automatically discharge accumulated air from water supply, HVAC, heating, and other closed-loop liquid piping systems.
Air trapped inside a pipeline can reduce flow capacity, cause noise, increase energy consumption, and interfere with normal system operation. The internal float mechanism automatically opens the air outlet when air accumulates and closes it when the liquid reaches the specified level, helping maintain stable and efficient system performance.
Product Advantages
● Helps remove trapped air from pipelines
● Supports stable flow and circulation
● Helps reduce pipeline noise and air blockage
● Automatic operation without external power
● Compact construction for restricted spaces
● Suitable for water and HVAC systems
● Simple inspection and maintenance
Technical Specifications
Size Range
● NPS 1/2\”–2\” (DN15–DN50)
Pressure Rating
● PN10 / PN16
Pressure rating, discharge capacity, and connection size should be selected according to system pressure, pipeline volume, and required air-release performance.
Standards
● Design and Performance: EN 1074-4 for applicable water-supply air-valve configurations
● General Water-Supply Valve Requirements: EN 1074-1
● Inspection and Testing: EN 12266-1, where applicable
● Thread Connection: ISO 228-1
● Optional Thread Standards: ISO 7-1 or ASME B1.20.1 NPT upon request
Other connection sizes, pressure ratings, float materials, and technical requirements can be discussed with the factory.
Industry Applications
● Building water supply
● HVAC circulation systems
● Heating systems
● Chilled-water systems
● Water treatment systems
● Pumping systems
● General closed-loop liquid pipelines
The valve should normally be installed vertically at pipeline high points, manifolds, equipment outlets, or other locations where air may accumulate. It should not be confused with a safety relief valve or pressure-reducing valve.
FAQs
1. Why bother venting a closed-loop system?
Air trapped in a pipeline reduces flow capacity, creates noise and increases energy consumption. Venting it automatically keeps the system stable and efficient, particularly in water and HVAC circuits.
2. Where should it be installed?
Install it vertically at a high point, manifold or equipment outlet, wherever air tends to collect. It will not work well at a low point, because air rises away from it.
3. What happens once the pipe is full of liquid?
When liquid reaches the operating level, the float rises and closes the outlet, so the valve stays shut and does not leak water. When air builds up again, the float drops and the outlet reopens.
4. Can it protect my system against overpressure?
No. An air release valve only vents trapped air. It is not a safety relief valve or a pressure-reducing valve and should not be used in place of either.
5. Can I service it?
Selected configurations allow the internal components to be cleaned and inspected, so mention this when you order if serviceability matters. Fitting an isolating valve underneath, such as the Brass Ball Valve, lets you service it without draining the loop.
