Overview
The Brass Y Strainer is designed to remove solid particles from water, HVAC, irrigation, compressed air, and general utility pipelines.
Its Y-pattern body contains a removable screen that captures rust, scale, sand, and other pipeline debris before they reach pumps, meters, control valves, and other sensitive equipment. The threaded brass construction provides a compact and economical filtration solution for small-diameter piping systems.
Product Advantages
● Removes rust, scale, sand, and pipeline debris
● Helps reduce damage to downstream equipment
● Compact and lightweight construction
● Convenient screen removal and cleaning
● Low maintenance requirements
● Suitable for approved horizontal or vertical piping arrangements
Size Range
● NPS 1/2\”–4\” (DN15–DN100)
Pressure Rating
● PN16
Screen mesh size and filtration accuracy can be selected according to the medium and system requirements.
Standards
● Pressure-Containing Design: EN 12516-4
● Inspection and Testing: EN 12266-1
● Thread Connection: ISO 228-1
● Optional Thread Standards: ISO 7-1 or ASME B1.20.1 NPT upon request
Screen material, mesh size, pressure rating, thread type, and drain configuration can be discussed with the factory.
Industry Applications
● Building water supply
● HVAC and chilled-water systems
● Agricultural irrigation
● Water treatment auxiliary pipelines
● Pump inlet protection
● Compressed air systems
● General utility pipelines
The strainer should be installed with sufficient space for screen removal. Installation direction and screen orientation should follow the flow arrow and maintenance requirements.
FAQs
1. How fine should the screen mesh be?
Match the mesh to the smallest particle your downstream equipment can tolerate. A mesh that is too fine clogs quickly and needs frequent cleaning, while one that is too coarse lets damaging debris through. Our guide to Y-strainer installation position and mesh size selection goes through the choice in more detail.
2. Can it be installed horizontally or vertically?
Both can work, provided the piping arrangement allows it. In either case, install the strainer according to the flow arrow and leave enough clear space around the cap to pull the screen out for cleaning.
3. How do I clean it without cutting the pipe?
Isolate the line first, then remove the screen and rinse it out. If a drain plug has been fitted, you can open the blow-off port beforehand to flush out loose debris, which often saves a full strip-down.
4. Where should it go in the line?
Upstream of whatever you want to protect, such as a pump, meter or valve. Pump inlet protection is one of its main uses, and on the discharge side it pairs naturally with the Brass Vertical Check Valve.
5. Why a stainless screen inside a brass body?
The brass body gives corrosion resistance for compatible media, while the stainless steel screen is durable enough to be removed, cleaned and refitted repeatedly. Screen material and mesh size can be specified to suit your medium.
