Product Overview

Product Overview

The Brass Gate Valve is designed for reliable on-off isolation in water supply, plumbing, HVAC, irrigation, and general utility piping systems.

The valve controls the medium through the vertical movement of the gate. When fully open, the gate is lifted out of the flow path, providing a straight and unobstructed passage with low pressure loss. Its compact threaded construction, corrosion-resistant brass body, and simple handwheel operation make it suitable for commercial buildings, residential plumbing, and light industrial applications.

Brass gate valves are designed primarily for fully open or fully closed service and are not recommended for throttling or continuous flow regulation.

FAQs

1. Can this valve be used for throttling flow, or only full open/closed?
Full open or fully closed only — like all standard gate valves, it’s not designed for throttling. Using it to partially regulate flow accelerates wedge and seat wear and can compromise the seal over time.

2. What thread standard does this valve use, and can it be changed?
The default is ISO 228-1 (BSPP/G thread), with ISO 7-1 BSPP or ASME B1.20.1 NPT available on request — confirming which standard your piping uses before ordering avoids a thread mismatch at installation.

3. Is this brass gate valve suitable for drinking water applications?
It depends on the specific brass alloy and any lead content limits your region requires for potable water — this isn’t confirmed by the general “brass body” spec alone, so it’s worth checking the material certificate against your local drinking water code before specifying it for that use.

4. How does the rising stem help during operation?
As the valve opens, the stem visibly rises above the handwheel, giving an immediate visual indication of whether the valve is open or closed without needing to check the handwheel position itself. You can read our guide on NRS vs OS & Y Gate Valve.

5. What’s the practical size limit before a brass gate valve isn’t the right choice anymore?
Brass becomes less practical at larger diameters due to weight, cost, and pressure limitations compared to cast or forged steel — this platform tops out at 4″/DN100, and larger or higher-pressure applications typically move to steel gate valve constructions instead.
