Double-Disc Gate Valve

Product Features

● Double-Disc Structure: Two discs move independently and expand for uniform sealing on both sides.
● Low Operating Torque: Parallel sliding discs reduce friction during operation.
● Reliable Bi-Directional Sealing: Ensures tight shut-off regardless of flow direction.
● Self-Compensation: Disc and seat allow automatic compensation for wear, extending service life.
● Full Bore Design: Ensures minimal pressure loss and smooth fluid passage.
● Optional Rising or Non-Rising Stem: Suitable for different installation environments.

Product Overview

Product Overview

The Double Disc Gate Valve is designed for reliable shut-off in low to medium pressure pipeline systems.

It features two parallel wedge discs that expand against the seat rings to achieve tight sealing with low operating torque.

This design allows smooth opening/closing, reduced seat wear, and stable sealing performance even under pressure fluctuations.

It is widely used in water supply, municipal pipelines, irrigation, power plants, and industrial systems.

FAQs

FAQs

1. How does a double disc design achieve tighter sealing than a single wedge disc?
The two discs slide down together, then a wedging mechanism forces them apart against their individual seat rings — because each disc seats independently, minor misalignment or wear on one side doesn’t compromise the seal on the other, which a single-wedge design can’t self-correct for.

2. What’s the practical benefit of “self-compensation” as the seat wears over time?
As the disc and seat surfaces wear from repeated cycling, the expanding mechanism continues to press the discs fully against the seat rather than leaving a growing gap — this extends the interval before the valve needs reseating or disc replacement compared to a fixed-geometry wedge.

3. Rising stem or non-rising stem — which should I choose?
A rising stem gives a visible external indication of open/closed position, useful where operators need a quick visual check; a non-rising stem keeps overall installed height lower, which matters in confined vaults, underground chambers, or buried service where headroom above the valve is limited. See our full breakdown of NRS vs. OS&Y gate valve differences if space and visual verification both matter for your project.

4. Is this valve suitable for throttling flow, or shutoff only?
Shutoff only — like other gate valve designs, running it partially open for extended throttling accelerates disc and seat wear well beyond what the self-compensating mechanism is meant to offset.

5. Can this valve be automated with an actuator instead of the handwheel?
Yes — the same body typically accepts gear operators, pneumatic, or electric actuators for remote or automated operation, though torque requirements should be confirmed against the specific size and pressure class before sizing an actuator.
